Bob Kennedy, Executive Director, William Davidson Institute

Dr. Robert E. Kennedy is the Executive Director of the William Davidson Institute and a Professor of Business Administration at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business.  His research and course development activities focus on business strategy and industry dynamics following economic reform in developing countries.  Dr. Kennedy has published in leading economics and management journals and has written more than 60 case studies and notes on business issues in emerging markets.  Since 2000, Dr. Kennedy has been exploring the drivers and implications of the globalization of service activities and has written extensively on this widely debated issue of offshoring of service activities and the profound impact on businesses and governments in both developed and developing countries.

Brian Trelstad
, Chief Investment Officer, Acumen Fund

Brian Trelstad is the Chief Investment Officer of Acumen Fund, where he runs the global portfolio team, coordinating the investment process and our post-investment management support. In addition, he has been driving Acumen Fund’s work on measuring social and financial return. He is a member of the Fund's management committee and the extended leadership team. Before joining Acumen Fund, Brian Trelstad spent four years at McKinsey & Company as a consultant in the healthcare and non-profit practices and as an editor of the McKinsey Quarterly. Prior to McKinsey, he worked as a case writer at Stanford University's Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and advised a number of early-stage technology companies. He was the lead environmental staffer for President Clinton's AmeriCorps program, and co-founded and directed the Center for Environmental Citizenship. Brian holds an MBA from Stanford University, an MA in City Planning from UC-Berkeley, and a BA from Harvard University.

Virginia Barreiro
, New Ventures Global Director, World Resources Institute

Virginia Barreiro is the Director of New Ventures. She has been working in sustainable enterprise development for 7 years.  In her work on New Ventures, she has helped to grow the initiative from a regional (Latin America) to a global focus that is active in 5 major emerging markets, Brazil, Mexico, China, India and Indonesia. New Ventures supports small and medium enterprises operating in sustainable sectors. The project identifies innovative enterprises with potential for high environmental and social impact and provides them with access to business development services and investment.

Ravi Anupindi
, Professor of Operations and Management Science, University of Michigan

Ravi Anupindi is the Program Director for the Master of Supply Chain Management Program, Michael R. and Mary Kay Hallman Fellow and an Associate Professor of Operations Management at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. Previously, he taught at the Stern School of Business, New York University and the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. He teaches Operations Management (core) and elective courses in Supply Chain Management and Strategic Sourcing. He also teaches in several executive education programs and is director of the Leadership in Plant Operations program for executives.

 


Judging Criteria


 

Cases will be judged on the following:

  • How well the case addresses one or more of the five research questions
  • Case learning objectives
  • Case analysis in the teaching note
  • Writing style, case clarity, and completeness (i.e. presentation, sufficiency of data, grammar)
