Activity Description: NABUUR.COM is run by Stichting Nabuur, a Netherlands based not-for-profit foundation. In its current development phase, NABUUR.COM depends on donor funding. After 2006 NABUUR.COM will be self financing.

Communities in developing countries can present their issues on NABUUR.COM and ask for the assistance of online volunteers , or "Neighbours." NABUUR.COM provides the community with its own online Village, a group of online volunteers (Neighbours), and a volunteer Facilitator who coordinates the efforts of the Neighbours.

Together the representative of the community and the Neighbours look for solutions for the community’s problems, or the Actions Needed described by the Representative of the local community. Neighbors and community members work together and report their findings in the online discussions of the Village. The work of the Neighbours is coordinated by a Facilitator (also an online volunteer).

If the solutions found by the Neighbours fit the local situation they are implemented. The Neighbours get to see the results (photos, stories) on the Village.

In most cases further assistance of the Neighbours is required. A new question is put to the Neighbours by the Representative of the local community and the process starts again.

Nabuur currently hosts 55 online villages from Africa, the Americas, and Asia, and has contributed assistance succesfully in areas such as development, sustainable agriculture, education, gender, hiv/aids, health and nutrition, income generation, water, and youth.
