Princeton in Africa Program Manager
Princeton in Africa is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that seeks to develop young leaders committed to Africa's advancement. To accomplish this, Princeton in Africa (PiAf) offers opportunities for service through fellowships with a variety of organizations that work across the African continent.
Princeton in Africa Fellows are recent graduates of any non-profit college or university in the U.S. who seek to serve other nations. Fellows work with leading development, health, education, and conservation organizations for terms of one year.
PiAf is currently managed by a full-time Executive Director and full-time Program Manager. The PiAf office is located in Princeton, NJ. Responsibilities for the Program Manager include administrative tasks, program development and management, and communication with program participants/alumni and partner organizations. Many duties are shared with the Executive Director who works more directly with the Board of Directors and Foundation Board on fundraising efforts. The Program Manager's responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Orchestrating recruitment initiatives and managing the process of selection and placement of Princeton in Africa Fellows.
- Coordinating the Fellows' pre-departure orientation program and supporting Fellows before, during, and after the course of their fellowships.
- Organizing, updating, and maintaining files and information about the fellowships and the program.
- Developing new fellowships and maintaining relationships with officials at the host institutions.
- Engaging program alumni in events and programs.
- Producing marketing materials, compiling bimonthly newsletters, and maintaining PiAf's website.
- Maintaining financial and mailing list databases.
- Assisting with fundraising activities and events.
- Handling administrative duties, maintaining the functionality of the office, and overseeing interns and office assistants.
Applicants should therefore have the following qualifications and background:
- Some interest/background/experience in Africa, preferably including 1+ year of work and travel in Africa.
- Good communication, writing, editing, and interpersonal skills.
- A solid background in word-processing, database creation and manipulation, spreadsheets, and website design/maintenance.
This position provides useful training to an individual with a career interest in non-profit management. It also offers valuable background and exposure to an individual with African career interests.
Start date is flexible between April 1 - April 15, 2010.
