Background:
Ashoka's Mission is to create a competitive, entrepreneurial and globally integrated citizen sector and to develop the profession of social entrepreneurship. Since 1981, Ashoka has identified, invested and brought together more than 2600 leading social entrepreneurs in more than 70 countries around the world. In the present political and social state in many of the countries of the Arab World, Ashoka is well placed to help leading social entrepreneurs step forward with leadership and ideas for a more open, developed and democratic future.
The Media & Marketing Officer will serve as the focal point for raising the profile of Ashoka Arab World locally, in the Arab region, and internationally. S/he will report to the Regional Director and work closely with other AAW Officers to integrate appropriate marketing messages in all outreach and achieve the goals set by the Regional Director.
Tasks:
The Media & Marketing Officer will report to the Regional Director and be responsible for the following:
Media
- Strategically engage the local, regional and international media to increase coverage about Ashoka Arab World and social entrepreneurship in the Arab region
- Assist Fellows with notification of opportunities for media outreach
- Implement AAW's existing media strategy
- Monitor local and international coverage of AAW, our Fellows and issues pertaining to our work, produce internal reports and distribute to staff and Fellows
Marketing
- Work with AAW's RD and staff to effectively plan and implement a marketing strategy for AAW with the goals of 1) raising awareness about AAW, the need for our work and mission, our Fellows, and the issue of social entrepreneurship, and 2) begin an effort to market the Ashoka brand in the Arab World
Ashoka Arab World Publications:
- Prepare professional and timely publications that meet the needs of AAW and help us to accomplish our marketing and branding goals. This will include but is not limited to: an Annual Report, ARISENewsletter, Induction publications, and any other publications.
- Design any needed marketing materials such as flyers, invitations, banners, posters, as necessary.
- Moderate Ashoka Arab World Blog and website. Update content regularly and upload new marketing materials as necessary.
- Moderate Google-alerts on international media coverage of Ashoka and Fellows. Change settings with the election of new Fellows.
Event Planning
- Work with the Regional Director and AAW staff to plan and implement outreach events, including one high profile gala event per year
Qualifications:
Education
B.A. in a relevant field, preferably in Marketing or Social Sciences
Experience and Requirements
- 5 years of relevant experience is preferred
- Excellent writing and analytical skills
- Excellent familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Power point, etc.
- Excellent desk-top publishing and graphic design skills, including the use of Adobe Indesign and Illustrator
- Strong initiative, independence, creativity and sound judgment. They must be service-oriented and flexible, with excellent communication and organizational skills
Language
Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic
