Associate, Communications & Development

Global Impact Investing Network

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) is looking to hire an Associate to support the organization’s development work with current and prospective funders, as well as communications and outreach efforts across all programs of this fast-paced growing organization. The ideal candidate for the role must have strong project management skills, writing and editing experience, relationship management experience, and a conviction that clear communication is instrumental in the successful proliferation of new ideas. The Associate will split time evenly between communications and development work, with some variability as more intensive projects arise and with an aim to generally balance over the long term.
Responsibilities:
Development
  • Write and edit grant proposals and grant renewals for new and existing donors, including foundations, government agencies, and corporations.
  • Compile and write progress reports, elevating key achievements relative to donor priorities for all GIIN programs and activities.
  • Maintain and enhance internal systems to archive communications and activities with key contacts at current and prospective donor institutions.
  • Create fundraising and other reports for internal stakeholders, including the GIIN Board of Directors, as needed.
  • Coordinate all administrative details pertaining to grant processing with the GIIN’s fiscal sponsor, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
  • Conduct preliminary research on funding activities and priorities of prospective donors.
  • Correspond with donors as needed.
Communications
  • Write communications and marketing materials, including GIIN newsletter items, press releases, website copy, and guest opinion columns, for both select industry stakeholders and broad public audiences to increase the visibility of impact investing and the GIIN’s role in the industry’s growth.
  • Edit and proofread publications and other materials developed to support the GIIN’s program-specific goals.
  • Develop content, including PowerPoint presentations and speaker briefs, and manage logistics for events, both those organized by the GIIN and those at which GIIN team members are featured speakers.
  • Maintain and enhance internal systems to track industry events and manage GIIN participation at these events.
  • Maintain and manage updates to website copy on GIIN and GIIN program-specific websites
  • Manage the content on the GIIN’s online resource center, where research reports, press clips, and events are publicly aggregated as a service for the field.
  • Help track and report outreach metrics utilizing web analytics, event management systems, and email responses, to inform understanding of audience engagement
  • Support the evolution of the GIIN’s brand strategy, including contribution of ideas about general approach, content, communications channels, and graphic design.
  • Support media relations work with a global public relations firm, as well as social media efforts, as needed.
  • Provide input to impact investing research and other GIIN publications, with a particular focus on audience accessibility.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
The Associate must have strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple projects at once, and be collaborative, professional, resourceful, flexible, and highly responsible. The ideal candidate has communications, marketing, or development experience, and has basic knowledge of investment concepts. This role will require both strategic thinking and task execution. Experience in high-growth organizations is advantageous, but not required.
Other requirements:
  • Conviction that for-profit investment capital can effectively address social and environmental challenges
  • Bachelor’s degree required (marketing, communications, or related degree a plus)
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience showing strong writing skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, strategic thinking, and ability to manage multiple ongoing projects at once
  • Team-orientation, with strong interpersonal skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently while effectively prioritizing assignments and meeting deadlines
  • Experience managing consequential internal or external stakeholder relationships
  • Comfort managing web and online communications tools; basic HTML knowledge preferred
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Google Analytics, Salesforce, Mailchimp, and Adobe Creative Suite advantageous
  • Familiarity with social media and online tools, including Twitter, LinkedIn, and news aggregator platforms
  • Personable, engaging presence, with diplomacy, tact and good humor
FLEXIBILITY:
Full-time role in a flexible, entrepreneurial culture. This position is based in New York, NY.
