MIX is seeking a Director to lead the development of its Financial Inclusion program. MIX is the leading source for data on institutions providing financial services to the poor across the globe.
As part of its mandate to strengthen financial inclusion through data and analysis, MIX will scale up its financial inclusion initiative launched with maps (see example) and related analysis in the last year. MIX seeks to provide a resource on the landscape of institutions providing financial services to the underserved with sufficient breadth and granularity to provide real decision-support. Donors and policymakers, in particular, find a need for a comprehensive and detailed resource for data on financial inclusion that crosses traditional providers with emerging products and channels, such as mobile money. The need is driven by a demand for information to guide their intervention strategies and interest in using contextual information, such as location, to identify and monitor progress towards closing gaps in financial access.
The Director for Financial Inclusion will lead the development of this initiative through the development of tools to support the analysis of financial inclusion, through dialogue and partnerships with these actors to refine MIX’s strategy and tools, and through thought leadership on the analysis of financial inclusion to ensure that MIX efforts lead and support the development of inclusive financial sectors.
The Director for Financial Inclusion will be responsible for shaping and delivering MIX’s financial inclusion program within MIX’s overall products and services, including:
Developing the strategy to promote MIX as an industry leader in providing data, tools and analysis on financial inclusion
Engaging clients on financial inclusion work
Leading MIX’s financial inclusion data collection, analysis and tools development
Building partnerships to support MIX’s financial inclusion offerings, particularly with regulators, policy makers and related data providers
Managing related data analysis staff
Support efforts to secure resources for further growth
The Director for Financial Inclusion works with Chief Operating Officer in building out the strategy and work plans for the financial inclusion program and will manage the data wrangler staff and consultants to deliver on those plans. This role requires strong cross-functional working relationships with regional analyst teams in building connections to in-country partner and resources , with the product team to build and refine the product delivery, with marketing to engage users of the target market segments, and with other program directors to ensure coordination in achieving MIX’s visions.
Qualifications and skills
Solid track record in the sector, with five to ten years of work experience in microfinance or financial inclusion
Client oriented, with a track record of managing client engagements and relationships
Data savvy, able to work with data analysts to effectively translate data into insight and tools for target audiences
Coalition builder, with proven experience in mobilizing partners to support program goals
Strong manager, able to effectively mobilize talent across a range of teams and skills
Good communicator, both written and verbal
Excellent teamwork skills
Salary commensurate with qualifications and range for the position.
