Hi Nopp,

I'm glad you asked - as a rule, we only work with companies in our countries of operation, but as a matter of fact, New Ventures is aiming to expand its operations into new countries this year - check back with us over the next several months for developments...

-Derek

This is going to be a great initiative in helping the poor address the social and environmental problems. Do you plan to invite small companies from other countries additional to five countries above?
BOP Deal flow

It certainly seems there's a tangible increase in public and private capital targeting the BOP. I look forward to reading more on your approach to scaling BOP strategies. When it comes to scaling BOP strategies in Africa, I think the main challenge is still the entrepreneur. They are undoubtedly the missing key in this region unlike India for example. Very few are able to develop their ideas into a bankable business proposal and tend to over value their sweat capital input, which seems to be a fairly common challenge in structuring seed stage investments. The progress might be slow but it's worth the effort, these are the pioneering years!
Know What It Takes To Get Approved For Business Financing

The Event sounds great, yet wouldn't it just make sense if the Lending Industry told Small Business Owners EXACTLY what it takes to qualify for their program? That way the Business Owner wouldn't be out there damaging their personal credit, getting declined and still looking for capital. Come on, the Lenders Approval criteria shouldn't be a SECRET right? This company has over 4,000 lenders categorized on it's site and only a few hundred have shared their approval criteria. Why not all 4,000?

ICT for SMEs

ICT adoption for SMEs is a very startegic work. Currently most of SMEs are slow to adopt ICT. We are implementing a programme to improve ICT usage among Indian SMEs through cluster development approach for the last two years. The project details may be seen at www.projectvikas.com. kindly let me know how we can help you in UGANDA.

More Great Stuff

I am an RA at a private university, and I preside over 13 freshman who have volunteered for a special "Entrepreneurship" Freshman Seminar. In this group, there is almost always a tendency for the kids (I'm not much older than them, by the way) to be confused by teh course's title--the seminar leader spends most of his time talking about things relating to the Creation Theory, not the Discovery Theory. In other words, Discovery Theory stuff is mostly taught in the Business Department of my school, and these kids thought that was what they were going to get! I think they get the better end of the deal... we spend the whole semester just talking about what it means to BE an entrepreneur, rather than HOW. Awesome stuff.
ICT As a capacity that SMEs need desperately

As a UNIDO project that was set up to help build capacity of SMEs to become competitive in the market here in Uganda and abroad, we have carried out needs assessments and found out that ICTs are a big need that SMEs have and which is not having a direct solution.

Please we are calling upon development partners, Volunteers in the same to come to SMEs rescue. and support initiatives like ours and others that are in line with ICT for SME competitiveness.

We can contacted on jinjadbic@yahoo.co.uk
regards from Uganda
