The case for investing in Africa

Investing in Africa is not just a flow of funds or a commodity story as this article impies. There is real change at the econonic, social and political level. This is a generational thing, caused by globalisation, technoloy and education.
I am not surprised to see yunus call for an entrepreneurial revolution at WB since my father's 1984 book written after 5 decades at The Economist timelined exactly such a system change to economics with 2008 the deadline if the world was going to escape major sustainability meltdowns http://www.normanmacrae.com/netfuture.html

I am a bit surprised that for 3 years in row now our survey of world's most trusted person has ranked Yunus clearly number 1 - not personally surprised that is but staggered by Washington's apparent disinterest in such findings

Vestergaard Frandsen is all profit - no ethics

Within emergency relief I believe the reputation of this company is more less like that of Microsoft with open source developers. I believe they have not developed any of their famous products with own talent but with external specialists who on each occasion has been thanked with lawsuits to stop them from ever developing within that field at all. If it was not for Vestergaard-Frandsen aggressive behaviour I believe prices would already be lower and LLIN shortages would have been less severe.
Researchers who have been involved with field testing have a tendency of being left without payment.
The production facility was set up using development aid money granted by the Danish state. Shortly after the company hit the jackpot with their Permanet (100s of USD in profits) the company left for Switzerland and a much more comfortable tax climate.
The company has also recently been implicated in a scandal in India. Here they supposedly had a UNICEF sponsored distribution of free LLIN suspended after which they arranged to have their own product, paid for in full, take the place of the free nets. The free nets were left in a warehouse until unusable. Reported on http://netvindia.com/ and other places.
These examples are just some high lights. The company is all about the money without any other concern.
Vestergaard Frandsen's profit. responsible not

Do you know that Bed Nets manufactured by Mr. Frandsen cost under $ 1 dollar each and is sold by Vestergaard to Unicef and Ministries of Health etc. for OVER $ 5 dollars !!

We agree with Mr. Frandsen ... profit is good but his compnay is making hundreds of Millions of dollors on the back of this humanitarian claim.

WHO must allow new LLINs manaufacturers the WHOPES approvale quicker (at present there are only 3 suppliers approved including Vestergaard. WHOPES recommendation takes up to 3 years to conclude), thereby opening the market to new technologies and competititors. This in our view will better service donors and Malaria population at risk as price per Bed net should eventually come down.
Wouldn't the world be a wonderful place if every company put less emphasis on profit and more on how they can help those in need> God bless Mikkel and all of those who are affiliated with this outstanding business! They've inspired me to be a better man and do whatever I can, no matter how small, do make an impact in a world on the eve of destruction.
How can I get the funds to go into the production of growout. The banks in Nigeria is asking for your head.
A brave and wise man indeed....a countryman who makes us proud...i do agree...africa needs more men and women like Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim to alleviate if even a fraction of the suffering in that beautiful continent...i trust that another face of development will emerge from underneath him....i shun all opposing voices....colonialism/imperialism is not our savior....africa has its own children to lift it from despair ....thank you Mo for reminding us how much we owe that land and for awaking the dormant advocate inside us.....you gave us a great push to fight for africa!
microfinance institutions in kenya

Hi please note that we need non biased information on the emerging microfinance institutions, the target i think is the common mwanainch, what are the chances that they will help Kenyans raise capital to start up small bussinesses. this group can not access bank loans as they do not have any securities. is there a way the government cap put in place policies to guide there operation instead of demonising them thank you.
