I love reading about all these technologies we can't get while gas is up to 4 dollars a gallon. It would be nice if the Gov would pump some money into inventions that are already here.
1000 liters of clean water

1000 liters of clean water per day ? How much dunk is needed to evaporize this volume of water, probably " ab obtainum" after first 3 weeks of operation.

using UV light is probably more efficient, but not with the sewage

I am wondering if these technologies are being tried out in India. I will be very glad to be part of any initiative in India.
Segway creator unveils his next act

I thought this news article was worth highlighting - an excellent example of a successful entrepreneur using his talents to design products specifically to meet the needs of people living at the base of the pyramid. The article originally appeared here.

San Francisco - Dean Kamen, the engineer who invented the Segway, is puzzling over a new equation these days. An estimated 1.1 billion people in the world don't have access to clean drinking water, and an estimated 1.6 billion don't have electricity. Those figures add up to a big problem for the world-and an equally big opportunity for entrepreneurs.

To solve the problem, he's invented two devices, each about the size of a washing machine that can provide much-needed power and clean water in rural villages.

"Eighty percent of all the diseases you could name would be wiped out if you just gave people clean water," says Kamen. "The water purifier makes 1,000 liters of clean water a day, and we don't care what goes into it. And the power generator makes a kilowatt off of anything that burns."
