Sankalp
(English translation: Pledge or Determination) is a South Asia Social Enterprise and Investment Forum with the primary goal of bringing together various stakeholders sharing a common conviction that capital should be invested to create multiple bottom-line returns (financial, social and environmental) and not exclusively financial (profit-maximizing) or social (philanthropic) returns.

Sankalp 2009 is an effort to discover, connect and support the most investible social MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium enterprises) operating in agriculture, energy, education, healthcare and "scalable models".  Organized by the India Development Gateway and sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation, Rural Innovations Network, NABARD and Aavishkaar, this promises to be a high-profile forum for the latest generation of base of the pyramid companies in South Asia.

If you have a company that should be considered for the Sankalp Award, or know of one, the deadline for nominations is February 15, 2009.  More information on the awards, process, program, events and sponsors is available on the web site.  We'll be keeping an eye on Sankalp and will look to post updates as we hear them from our friends at the India Development Gateway.

The standard of education in Nigeria has fallen over the years. As a result, many concerned individuals have taken up the responsibility of providing standard international education for the children of low to average income, hard working Nigerians. One such school is TRIPLECROSS SCHOOL.Founded in 1994,and with very high academic standard, the school has produced many pupils who have gone on to excel in many high schools and higher institutions. In line with its aim of reaching many children, the fees have been kept as low as possible. This has resulted in population explosion in the school. At the moment, most of the classes are congested, many pupils are trying to get admission, and all available area of the school area has been built up.The school is in need of a bigger land on which more classes can be built.Fortunately there is a built-up propety near the school that is going up for sale. However the school cannot afford the money. The school hereby solicits support in the purchase of the property. The little money the school gets at the moment can continued to be managed to provide water, electricity(in form of generating plants)computers, playground equipment, etc ,and pay teaching and non-teaching staff. But we need space. The money does not have to be a grant. It could be a loan which has to be repaid maybe with a little interest. It could then be put in trust and lent to other instituitions such as ours. This is to say it will become a revolving loan to be repaid.I know Nigerians are thought to be untrustworthy, but not all Nigerians are like that. Many Nigerians are dependable and trustworthy. The world should not allow many young lives who could contribute much to their community and indeed the world to go to waste as a result of a few bad eggs.We would appreciate if our school could be helped so that we can continue to give the best to future leaders of our country. Our e-mail addr.are-triplecrossschools94@yahoo.com and funkegesinde@yahoo.com I am the school Director. On behalf of the school I thank you in anticipation.Mrs Olufunke Gesinde,Triplecross Schools Lagos Nigeria.
