Activity Description: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) was established by the SMEDAN Act of 2003 to promote the development of the MSME sector of the Nigerian Economy.

The Agency positions itself as a "One Stop Shop" for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development. Micro Enterprises are included in the clientele of the Agency since they form the bedrock for SME’s.

Cows to Kilowatts designs, builds, and operates biogas plants that utilize slaughtehouse waste to offer an inexpensive source of carbon neutral energy that eliminates the indoor pollution and adverse health effects from alternative kerosene and wood-burning solutions. Its technology solution can be applied to other sources of bio-waste to produce renewable and affordable sources of energy and electricity.

Life Wrap for post-partum women

Activity Description: Maternal mortality is responsible for over 500,000 deaths globally every year. Obstetric hemorrhage contributes to the greatest proportion of maternal deaths and, in developing regions of the world, women die because there are often long delays between the occurrence of hemorrhage and treatment.

Funded by a MacArthur Foundation grant, the Women's Global Health Imperative is studying whether the "Life Wrap," a simple neoprene and Velcro device (much like the bottom half of a wet suit), may fill this deadly time delay.

Activity Description: In 1999, Unilever Africa Regional Group created a separate business unit called Popular Foods to target mass-market consumers with nutritious foods at affordable prices. One of their first products was Annapurna, a refined iodised salt sold in small sachets to help preserve the iodine - a product originally developed for the Indian market by Hindustan Lever. The salt has important health benefits for those who suffer from Iodine Deficiency Disorder, which can cause retardation, brain damage, and, in pregnancy, stillbirths and congenital abnormalities.

By manufacturing the networking components in Ghana, the company further reduces costs for users.
