Activity Description: Partnering with Racom S.R.O. of the Czech Republic, Arrow Network Systems is building nationwide wide area networks across Africa using wireless narrowband technologies. These low-speed, inexpensive wireless networks can be deployed very quickly to cover vast geographical areas because of their minimal terrain restrictions. By manufacturing the networking components in Ghana, the company further reduces costs for users. Areas of application include networks for corporate branch offices, Automatic Teller Machines, point-of-sale systems, debit and credit card systems, fleet tracking, remote sensor data gathering, oil/gas pipeline monitoring and low-cost Internet access for under-served communities. The company is presently deploying Ghana's biggest wide area network for the Department of National Lotteries, as well as two networks in Nigeria for the Prudent Bank and the Societe Generale Bank to provide online banking and 24-hour ATM access for remote locations. Its Javelin product provides asynchronous web access over the WiFi network, enabling users to view cached Web pages and conduct normal e-mail interactions without being constantly connected.
