The non-profit organization, Healing Fields Foundation (HFF) partners with NGOs, private, government, and semi-government sectors to make healthcare more affordable, accessible, and efficient for the underserved people of India.



Through its HFF-HSO (Health Services Organization) Program, HFF creates networks between private insurance companies and local NGOs; the former group tailors and sells specific insurance products, negotiated by HFF, while the latter group, in conjunction with HFF, ensures their delivery to rural populations.



The primary insurance product covers 43 illnesses, from poisoning to pregnancy, with a 20-25% copay on a yearly premium of Rs 353 that provides coverage worth Rs 20,000 for a family of five. While premiums go to the insurance provider, members can access healthcare services and have payments made directly to providers via the HSO.



HFF tailored its services based on studies undertaken after it was revealed that 52 per cent of the total loans taken by the rural poor from micro-finance institutions was for treating emergencies in healthcare.
