Activity Description: Procter and Gamble has developed a cheap water-filtration system to serve poor communities with no access to clean water. Because the filters are easy-to-use and sold in single-usage form, they are affordable (US$.10) and easy to store and distribute. One packet is enough for 10 gallons, or about two days for a family.

While this filter is largely donated to communities and in bulk for emergency relief, P&G is testing distribution via a sustainable business model in Guatemala, the Philippines, Morocco and Pakistan. A commercial market approach helps to leverage the technology innovation, distribution and marketing infrastructure of the private sector with the advocacy, education, and research efforts of collaborating groups to build awareness of the need to properly treat and store water.

I have been travelling through Africa on business a lot and have seen what happens in terms of water supply. It is sometimes scary to see what this people have to drink to stay alive. Especially to those of us conscious about filtering water. This is a great job that was done. Although still pricy, considering that some people especially in Africa have to live on less than $ 1-00 per day. Let us just hope that those with more blessing will keep on helping to get these products out there. Great Job Done. Loved hearing about this article even thought it was a little hard to read. As the post stated above they are a little pricey but let's hope there is a lot of "pay it forward" people to help. I may look into this a little further as this is really a worthy cause. Thanks and keep us informed. All the best, Chris
