Activity Description: The Jhai PC and communication system is a complete, low-power computer designed for use in rural 'off-grid' villages. The system, whose design has iteratively evolved over the past 6 years, has Internet, wireless, VoIP capability and can be powered by pedaling a bicycle. The systems are also very reliable - Jhai PCs have run in the field and in the lab with no crashes for 8 months. The project has received interest from 65 countries, including India where the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Ministry of IT, Government of India, and Jhai Foundation are planning and cooperating on the building of a sub-$200 full-function PC.
