Activity Description: Hodeidah Micro Credit Program is a Yemeni microfinance institution that uses Islamic financial services (IFS). The use of IFS expands Hodeidah's potential clientele, because many Yemenis feel reluctant to accept normal loans due to religious reasons. In particular, Hodeidah uses a methodology called Murabaha. Under this scheme, the 'lender' buys the good and then resells it to the 'borrower' at the cost of the good, plus a fixed markup for administration cost. The 'borrower' pays the cost of the good in installments.
