Activity Description: N-Logue, in conjunction with the Indian Institute of Technology (Madras), Vortex Engineering, and ICICI Bank, has developed a web-based, fingerprint identification automatic teller machine (ATM) that will serve rural Indian markets. The ATM is called Gramateller INDI, and will eliminate the need for personal identification numbers and magnetic-stripe cards; smart cards and fingerprints are used instead. ATM customers simply display their smart card and authenticate themselves using the fingerprint ID module. Gramateller INDI then sends the fingerprint image to a remote server using a Web camera and Internet-enabled PC. Once a person's identification is verified by the computer, a keypad is used to withdraw money from the machine. The bank and kiosks will be networked using n-Louge's corDECT connectivity, which offers simultaneous voice and data services through a secure connection. The machine costs 20 times less than a traditional ATM (about Rs 40,000).
