Activity Description: DISHA provides quality healthcare to the rural poor in India through telemedicine and a unique partnership of NGOs, firms, and government. It fits vans with a team of doctors and with healthcare and telecommunications equipment. These vans travel to pre-determined locations each week. The telecommunications equipment eliminates the need for onsite specialists. ISRO, a government agency, provides the satellite network for the telecommunications equipment. Apollo Hospital provides the doctors. Philips outfits the vans with the health care and the telecommunications equipment. Dhan Foundation provides the link to the rural communities with volunteers who organize the villagers and provide follow-up assistance.
