Activity Description: Aravind Eye Hospital has initiated a telemedicine network that will enable patients to consult with doctors of the hospital through Internet technology. The project, called the Aravind Tele-Ophthalmology Network (ATN), allows people from rural areas to have access to specialists at any time of the day. The objective of this project is to eradicate the incidence of blindness and raise awareness of eye care among the rural poor, who are seldom aware of eye health. The project also seeks to bring expensive eye care within the reach of economically impoverished communities. Apart from patient tele-consultations, the technology is being used extensively in education & training programs.
