Rural homes without electricity get chance to receive solar power

"For as low as P343 per month, rural households in areas not reached by electricity will have the chance to use modern conveniences such as television sets, electric lights, karaokes and radio sets through solar power energy. Last week, the Negros Oriental provincial government, the Shell Solar Philippines Corp. and the Southern Sun Solar Power Corp. signed a memorandum of agreement that seeks to give solar-powered systems in rural areas through heavily-discounted loan packages." Hi Mely, I would suggest that you contact the Philippine Veterans Bank if you need a loan to buy a solar powered generator.  As of August 2004, the price was P343 per month.  Best of luck.  Ethan.

Hello, I would like to learn more about the capacity, costs and place of manufacturing of the systems. In addition I would like to know if this initiative is for profit? If for profit I would like to understand how the structure works between the Banks, vendor and distributor. If possible I would like to talk to you on the phone or if not possible can you direct me to the appropriate Person or company that can provide me the information needed to gain a better understanding of the project. I am from South America and would be interested in implementing a similar project in my country and would love to have active support from people and organizations which have gone thru the process already and are interested in taking an active role in my countries initiative. dear daniel,, nice to see ur comments,,i am from india's north east a similar terrain like the south america...i do have the same quest in my heart and lookig for a similar venture...but doubt that existing equiptmes can give al that is claimed here... also if u read it carefully the system is placed by generous discount from goverment,,which i feel is not required..'means makes project un-sustainable''... so what i am doing now is discussing with few people in the industry who r into this and also some researcher and trying to find out a complete model where we can practically put light and other necessities into a house and in an affordable budget by the 4 billion... if u r interested n infact i feel we should join hand in this project since we represent two important territories - south asia and south america and create our dream product ............... my aim is to provide affordable energy to all..n also earn from it(create a market)...if you share this vission n want to join kindly email me at rituraj.dewan@gmail.com rituraj

Is this forum still active?..i have not seen more replies to each queries sent. Anyway I am also interested in utilizing a solar power system, specially now that i have established a residence in Bucas Grande one of the major island in Surigao del Norte. My area is only accessible by boat thus making it impossible to bring power lines to each of the houses there specially those isolated fishing villages like in inlets which depends solely on fishing for there living and the only possible way of providing the locals with electricity is through solar power..I have been to the other island also in Surigao like Dinagat Island and in some of the communities there they are utilizing solar power already through DOE (Department of Energy) projects. However most isolated areas also were not privileged enough to be benefited from the projects. I am planning to buy my own solar power system, enough to run the basic necessity of the house, however i do not have the right information on where to buy, how much would it cost. And maybe when i get the right information it would also be a big help for the community which i live with. Thus i am asking folks out there if you have some information to guide me or if any one knows on how to apply for certain projects of the government like electrification of communities through solar power pls. email me at les_trek@yahoo.com kind regards, Lester

Thanks for your comment Lester. The forum is still active, but NextBillion.net is a site that focuses on business solutions to environmental and social problems writ large - not necessarily a specific question such as this. If information in the above article and the previous replies is out of date, I'd hope that someone in the community would let us know. Otherwise, we're just as in the dark as you are with regard to price and availability. Good luck!

I read many articles about solar power, I opened options to other altenate sources to cut costs. Your product offers one of the favorable choices, I would like to understand more your product, how much will it cost, and if there are offers for a financing scheme, where is your local business address. I believe this will be a new avenue or a turn around situation on our oil and financial crisis, considering its being environment friendly, economical and practical, coz we have abundant source of sunlight. Im from Cotabato City, Mindanao, Philippines. Looking forward to your earnest response. Thank you.

Any person can maximize the potential of solar power with an energy efficient house design. You can construct a home which uses passive solar energy for heat and ventilation. Without the need for electric fans or air conditioners, solar panels can power other appliances. Good house design should also capture rain water to personal or community use. Solar power can then be used to pump the water to a roof top tank which uses gravity to feed water to the house.

My husband and I are getting ready to build a home in Tuguegarao City, Phil. We are very interrested in having solar panels and generators so that we can be independent of the power company. With the abundance of sunny days in our country it just makes sense to do this if it is cost effective. Can you please give me a rought estimate on what this will cost. It is not going to be a large home somewhere around 650 sq.ft. on 2 floors making around 1300 sq ft. with 5 or 6 small rooms. Is it less costly to suppy it with 110-120v lighting and appliances. The only 220v needed will be for the refrigerator and A/C. I have some small electrical appliances that have been sent to me from America and I can use a step-down or step-up converter. So if it is cheaper for 110v I can use the step-up converter for the 2 larger items mentioned above. I hope you can help me in obtaining this estimate and who I need to contact to purchase and install. Thank you Juanita

Hello Friedrich/Antonio/Elmer, My name is Jun and I'm planning to put up a second story house (Ground and First level will be for a (3) door appartment for rent). The houseI plan to put up in the rooftop will incorporate passive and active solar power technology. My main concern is how to get up and down from the rooftop as my parents are quite elderly and my dad has emphysema and can not come up and down a plight of stairs. So does my mother who is elderly. Is there a lift that can be run by solar power to provide access to the rooftop? Also is there already an A/C than can run thru solar energy? I've always seen lighting/TV/and home entertainment supported by the solar technology but have not seen A/C yet. My father would need this as he has difficulty breathing on extreme hot weather. Also in Imus, Cavite(Lat 14 deg 25 min 48.29sec Long 120deg 56min 31.46sec)is it possible to incorporate a grid-intertied solar and wind power system as there are times that no wind is blowing at all except for frequent tropical monsoons. Can a wind turbine withstand Class5 typhoon wind gusts of up to 210-230 kph? And finally,do you have a passive solar house design that can maximize the green house effect in cooling the house?Do you have a house design that can maximize sunlight to illuminate the house but not increase indoor temperatures? What kind of window glass do you have that can work together with the technology but not dissipate cool gains in house temperature? This will lessen the use of A/C in the long summer and maintain heat in the monsoon season. How much do you think it will cost to put the system up that can handle (15) 40Watts fluorescent bulbs, a washing machine if the whole floor area is around 4,670 sq. ft.? (I intend to maximize the area to include an enclosed garden/solarium)
